One of the biggest threats to our nation's clean water supply is surface runoff from certain urban and industrial areas. Another major source of groundwater contamination comes from leaking fuel oil and gasoline tanks associated with fueling stations, tank farms and industrial facilities. Introducing hydrocarbons like oils, gasoline, and volatile organic compounds into to our wetlands, streams, lakes, and coastal waters can have devastating effects on drinking water qualities, wildlife, and the overall well being of municipal recreational areas.
Among the pollutants in runoff and groundwater contamination are oil and oil byproducts, which are known to contain harmful constituents such as metals and polycylic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and PCB's. The extent by which these materials are polluting stormwater runoff and the ultimate receiving waters is largely unknown.
Mercer offers various separator equipment for stormwater and groundwater treatment. The stormwater equipment is often installed below ground so that the stormwater can flow by gravity through the oil/water separator. Mercer supplies a line of direct burial, cylindrical units for this application. Our groundwater treatment separators and systems are traditionally installed above ground. This separator equipment is usually our rectangular line and can be offered in marine-grade aluminum, painted carbon steel or stainless steel.
