Leading corporations gather in Amsterdam to discuss best practices in environmental strategies for businesses
The conference is a response to the growing attention European companies place on environmental issues in recent years. According to a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit, the majority of executives now rank the following activities as very important in their corporate agenda: communicating environmental performance to stakeholders (61%); improving environmental footprint of products (57%); improving energy efficiency (52%).
These results have prompted Ethical Corporation and ClimateChangeCorp to do their own research on the subject. After in-depth interviews with over 75 environment and sustainability practitioners, the top five environmental issues that emerged are: energy efficiency; stakeholder communications; supply chain impacts; carbon emissions; water management.
The conference agenda itself is entirely focused on those five issues, presented in a form of debates and practical case studies. CEMEX and Siemens will be discussing the business case for an effective environmental strategy and why carbon alone is not enough. Johnson & Johnson will be speaking on the best ways of engaging suppliers in your green agenda; Bombardier Transportation will be presenting a case study on energy efficiency and what impact it had to their bottom line.
Senior executives from across industries are set to attend and speak, confirmed speakers include: CEMEX Ignacio Madridejos, President of the Northern European Region; Siemens Wolfgang Bloch, Vice President of Corporate Environmental Affairs; Volvo Niklas Gustavsson, Vice President of Public and Environmental Affairs; European Climate Exchange Patrick Birley, Chief Executive Officer; Goldman Sachs, Nushin Kormi, Associate, Environmental Strategy Group; Centrica José Davila, Head of Strategy for British Gas Energy.
The summit will bring together environmental and sustainability practitioners from all over Europe. For more information on the summit go to www.ethicalcorp.com/ebs/?t=1epPR.
