The London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB) has announced a three-year support programme to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the capital adopt circular economy business models.

Known as ‘Advance London’ the programme will be open from January 2017 and will provide free help and advice to businesses.

LWARB is a partnership between the Mayor of London and London’s boroughs and has a strategic steer over waste and recycling in the capital. It is currently developing a circular economy route map with the aim of turning London into a ‘circular city’. This programme is the first of a range of investment programmes for SMEs in London set to be launched in 2017.

Announcing the programme yesterday (November 23), Wayne Hubbard, chief operating officer of LWARB, said: “London is host to several circular economy leaders. The nature of the circular economy requires collaboration throughout the supply chain and changes the way businesses interact with consumers. As more and more businesses ‘go circular’ new opportunities will emerge for SMEs to bring innovative solutions to overcome the challenges that businesses face in this transition. We want London to be a world leader in nurturing circular economy businesses.”

The Advance London programme will support SMEs to identify opportunities that the circular economy can bring. A team of business advisors will deliver a series of events, workshops and one-to-one business support to SMEs in London to enable businesses to realise the benefits of adopting a circular business model. They will also support existing circular enterprises to overcome any barriers to growth and improve their competitiveness.

The programme is jointly funded by LWARB and the European Regional Development Fund, which is providing up to £628,936 of funding as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

Further details of how to apply will be provided in the coming weeks. For more information click here.
