Major water saving initiative launched in Australia

0
The campaign, ‘Help Us Help The Earth’, has been shaped by WSP, and its media launch has been fronted by Australian Olympic swimming legend, Michael Klim, who has positioned that 105,000 Olympic sized swimming pools could be filled with the water saved annually if all Australians reduced household water use by 10%. The initiative is driven by Landcare, the high profile partnership organisation between the community, government and local business that helps protect and repair the environment. In the build-up to the launch, we advised Landcare on how to provide the Australian public with an interactive online tool that enables people to assess their personal use of water, receive advice on how to reduce their usage, and track their impacts through an online calculator.

The result of our advice is captured within the website that supports this important national campaign -www.helpushelptheearth.com.au. The initiative is sponsored by leading wine producer Banrock Station, who have been a partner of Landcare for more than 10 years, providing funding on more than 60 critical conservation projects in Australia and globally.

Dan Morton, an experienced water efficiency expert in our Brisbane office, led the project alongside Andrew Sweatman and John Cameron from our dedicated Online Solutions team in Melbourne. Dan’s team researched and designed the structure for the campaign, calculating the impacts of water usage and efficiency measures, and shaping the questions to be featured within the website that enables the public to evaluate their usage.

Their findings were then built into the online calculator which is available as a link from the main Help Us Help The Earth website. The calculator and its supporting web pages were written, designed, built and piloted by our Online Solutions team, and by maintaining it as a separate website, WSP will capture visitor data so we can carry out further analysis and ensure the quality of the results and advice given to users.

This represents the most high profile project we have delivered to date through our exclusive consulting partnership to Landcare Australia. We are delighted to be playing such a central role in this campaign which is so important to protecting a precious natural resource that impacts the unique ecosystem of Australia. It’s a great illustration of the value of the expertise our people can bring, and our ability to translate this into practical and commercial outputs.
