With increased global connectivity and communications have come new business risks, from shifting customer demands and government regulations to increasing public concerns and activist pressure. Despite Nike and Gap’s supply chain challenges in the 1990s, recent issues at Apple and Coca-Cola show that we still lack a clear roadmap on how to address these new risks. Many of Walmart’s suppliers, for example, are scrambling to get up-to-speed on managing social and environmental risks.
Meanwhile, some companies are findings that properly managing these issues in their supply chains can be a source of competitive opportunity.
In this Webinar, Professor Stephen Brammer of the UK’s Warwick Business School will present the new findings from a comprehensive review of the research and best practices on how to build competitive and sustainable international supply chains. He will describe the most common management practices used to address these issues and explain why they aren’t enough. Then, he will share new frameworks to help the supply chain executive better understand and act upon these risks and opportunities.
Webinar attendees will learn how to:
- Think holistically about social, environmental and financial risks and opportunities in their supply chains
- Develop a strategy to address those risks and opportunities
- Implement that strategy through specific best practices

Stephen Brammer is Professor of Strategy at Warwick Business School in the UK. He is a leading scholar in the areas of business ethics and corporate social responsibility. His research explores firm-stakeholder relationships, the strategic management of these relationships and their impacts upon company performance and reputation. Recently, Dr. Brammer’s research has focused upon the inclusion of social and environmental criteria within firms’ procurement decisions. He has recently completed two large scale international comparative projects concerned with how public bodies and private companies embed social responsibility within their supply chains. His research has been widely published in leading journals such as the Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management Studies, Financial Management and the Journal of Business Research. He is a member of the executive board of the International Association for Business and Society, a Section Editor at the Journal of Business Ethics and a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Management Studies, Business Ethics Quarterly and Business & Society.
