Marsulex Inc. (TSX: MLX) announced today that Marsulex Environmental Technologies (“MET”) has been awarded a contract by Sunbury Generation LP (“Sunbury”) to design, supply and install a wet flue gas desulfurization (“FGD”) system at its 400 megawatt Sunbury Power Plant complex in Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania. MET will supply technology, engineering and erection of the FGD system.
MET’s project scope also includes the design and supply of the associated limestone preparation and gypsum de-watering systems, as well as the stack. WorleyParsons will serve as Sunbury’s architect engineer for the project. The contract value is in excess of US$60 million. Pre-engineering has commenced and start-up of the FGD system is scheduled for January 2010.
Marsulex President and Chief Executive Officer, Laurie Tugman, said this award further exemplifies MET’s continued success in providing cost-effective solutions to customers’ needs for state-of-the-art FGD systems in the U.S. “We are very pleased to have been selected by Sunbury and WorleyParsons for this important project and are proud of the confidence shown in MET by this award. The MET FGD system will service six (6) power boilers firing high sulfur, eastern coals. The close proximity of both the Sunbury Plant and the WorleyParsons headquarters to MET’s Lebanon, Pennsylvania main office will further enhance our execution of this “fast-track” project. ”
MET has one of the largest installed bases of wet FGD systems in the world. In addition to its FGD projects in North America, MET continues to have ongoing success internationally.
