Calgary, AB. -- The 12th annual Remediation Technologies Symposium (RemTech) took place in Banff, Alberta earlier this month and Maxxam’s presence made a mark, thanks in part to a high-calibre scientific presentation and the official roll-out of our Emergency Response Service. In addition, Maxxam sponsored the Environmental Artworks Foundation of Alberta (EAFA) fundraising reception and hosted an elegant cocktail event for customers.

Dr. Heather Lord, Maxxam’s Manager of Environmental Research & Development, gave a presentation focused on the development and analysis of elemental sulphur in soil samples using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Air-borne sulphur dust from industrial facilities that handle or process elemental sulphur has the potential to cause soil acidification – a major concern, particularly in Alberta. The goals of the work presented were to test and refine the HPLC testing method to be free from interferences and to ensure the final testing method is appropriate for practical application by environmental laboratories and other stakeholders. When visiting the Maxxam booth at Remtech 2013, visitors received an overview of Maxxam’s three-tiered Emergency Response Service (ERS). Designed with knowledge gained from 15 years of mobile lab deployments, ERS has been validated at some of the most complex and high-profile spill sites in Canada. The new ERS customer brochure outlines the value of Maxxam’s industry leading solution.

On the final evening of the conference, Maxxam was pleased to be one of the sponsors of the EAFA reception and to help raise money for charity. Maxxam customers and guests were then invited to a private reception to network with colleagues including Maxxam’s President & CEO, Jon Hantho and our new Senior Vice President, Environmental Services, Jeff More.
