He has singled out 17 members of the Green500 who have signed up to the project last year. This includes household names such as Pret a Manager and Chelsea Football Club.
Pret has recently introduced initiatives to reduce the amount of material used in baguette bags and bloomer wraps, saving 8.27 tones of packaging material per year. It also aims to make all of its packaging 100% recyclable. Chelsea FC has started recycling waste from its stadium.
The Mayor said: “In lean economic times, there are real financial savings to be made for businesses by becoming more energy efficient, helping them to remain competitive. This can often be done in really simple and cheap ways, and it is our job in City Hall to rally, support and publicly recognise organisations that want to do so.”
Green 500 members who have already committed to a carbon action plan also include: Addison Lee, Boots, Evershed, Fujitsu Services, Imperial College, Reed and Tate & Lyle.
