The Mayor of London Boris Johnson is encouraging people to recycle their unwanted electrical items at events taking place across the capital as part of Recycle Week starting next week.
The Give and Take events starting next week allow people to bring along their old, small electrical equipment such as kettles, mobile phones and irons and take away other people’s donated electrical items for free.
Items must be in good working order and will be tested at the events. Anything that does not get taken will be sold by the British Heart Foundation in one of its furniture and electrical stores in London.
Speaking about the event, Boris Johnson said: “One of the things we know people have trouble recycling is electrical items and so we are organising these give and take events.”
The events are being delivered by Recycle for London in partnership with the London Boroughs of Brent, Hammersmith & Fulham, Lambeth, City of London and Westminster, reuse network Freecycle, the British Heart Foundation and DHL. The first one takes place on June 24.
