Membrana Commercializes a new 2 x 6 SuperPhobic® Contactor with Black Housing for Deaeration in the Digital Ink Jet Printing Industry

Membrana is pleased to announce that it has completed the commercialization process of its 2 x 6 SuperPhobic® Membrane Contactor. This membrane degassing device improves many processes by removing bubbles and dissolved gasses from liquids. Specifically to the digital printing industry, bubbles in the ink jet print head can cause misfiring of the ink jet and imperfections on the final printed surface. By degassing the ink prior to the ink jet head, printer speeds can be increased and down time can be minimized.

UV curable inks represent a fast growing segment of the digital printing industry and they require black housings to keep light away from the inks. The SuperPhobic® Degasifier with a black housing is therefore a perfect match for this industry. One 2 x 6 SuperPhobic® device can process 100 ml/min to 1 L/min of fluid with a surface tension between 20-40dynes/cm. Additionally, the 2 x 6 SuperPhobic® Contactor is an all polyolefin device (fiber, housing, and potting), with no elastomeric seals, which gives it excellent chemical resistance to many aggressive inks including UV curable inks. These membrane degasifiers also come in other sizes that can handle different capacity needs.

In addition to degassing ink jet printing inks, SuperPhobic® Contactors are ideal for degassing developer solutions, emulsions, photographic coatings, paper coating solutions, printing plates and oily solutions.

SuperPhobic® and Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors are used around the world for adding or removing Oxygen (O2), Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Nitrogen (N2) to or from different liquids in digital printing, semiconductor, power, pharmaceutical, photographic, food and beverage, and many other industries.  For example, it is known that O2 negatively impacts many processes; it is corrosive and can oxidize materials. In the power and industrial areas, piping and equipment are susceptible to corrosion. Specifically to the semiconductor and ink market, high levels of O2 can cause lower yields and slower process speeds. Additionally, CO2 negatively impacts performance of EDI and Ion Exchange. Liqui-Cel Contactors offer a modular solution for O2/CO2 removal before these processes without chemicals.
