Mercia Waste Management plans to build an EfW facility called EnviRecover, which is designed to treat residual municipal waste produced in the two counties. The plant will generate more than 15MW of electricity and low-grade renewable heat for local businesses. The firm recently opened a materials recycling facility called EnviroSort to serve the two counties.
Mercia Waste Management director Javier Peiro said: “This project has been a significant undertaking by Mercia and will complement all our other activities across the two counties, which includes two composting sites, a number of household waste recycling centres as well as EnviroSort.
“Our proposal is the final element to help Worcestershire and Herefordshire end their dependence on landfill and out-of-county waste incineration, and will allow both to use a sustainable waste treatment system.”
Public consultations and community engagement activities about the facility were carried out by Mercia after it announced its proposal in 2009.
