Last month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of over 10,000 woman’s bicycles imported into the United States by a Pennsylvania firm. The recall was prompted by reports of the Fuji Saratoga Women’s Bicycles experiencing broken frames during use. The bicycles were sold from November 2007 through December of 2011.
Also last month, the CPSC announced a recall of crystal chandeliers that were also imported from China by a New Jersey firm. Three models of the chandelier, sold from January 2007 through December of 2010 are being recalled. The recall was prompted by reports of a mounting loop failing causing the chandeliers to fall from the ceiling.

“Comprehensive testing of metal components in consumer products can save manufacturers and importers money as well as prevent lawsuits and bad publicity,” reported Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical “Metallurgical testing can help identify many types of problems before products make it to consumers to ensure they will operate properly and not create hazardous situations,” he continued.
