Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) August 24, 2011 -- The Tech Titans Technology Innovators Award recognizes the pioneering accomplishments of a person, team or group responsible for the creation of breakthrough ideas, processes or products which have advanced the discipline(s) of the arts, education, electronics, energy, engineering, environment, medicine, and/or science.
Charbonnet is Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer for Chipotle Business Group, Inc. (CBGI), a developer of water testing and assay analysis technologies. “It is truly an honor to have Derrick named a finalist in the highly competitive Technology Innovator category,” said Scott Evans, CBGI’s President and CEO. “As I’ve said in the past, it took Derrick about 30 days to theorize a solution to slow water analysis for harmful microbes and complex chemicals; a feat scientists all over the world have been trying to accomplish for decades.” Evans went on to say that Charbonnet’s theory is now becoming a reality through CBGI’s efforts with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers at The University of Texas at Arlington, “Being a UT Arlington alum makes our collaborations with the University even more meaningful.”. “Sure, I theorized our patented Single-step ImmunoSorbent Assay (SISA) for Single and Multiple Analytes,” said Charbonnet, “but the UT Arlington scientists and researchers have advanced the SISA to the point of nearly having a working prototype system for harmful, if not deadly, microbes and complex chemicals in water. I am honored my theory has garnered the attention and resources required to develop an innovative, yet practical water testing solution that will have global impacts.”.
“CBGI is a start-up funded by the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, Evans explained. “We’re a lean operation and we leverage the exceptional resources the University has to offer. It’s been a real pleasure working with scientists such as Dr. Purnendu (Sandy) Dasgupta who was the recipient of the 2011 Award for Chromatography from the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society for pioneering advances in chromatography, and Dr. Michael Roner who has developed SISA lab tests for E. coil, Enterococcus, Cryptosporidium, E. coli O157:H7 and even our first complex chemical test, ethinyl estradiol, an estrogenic hormone used in veterinary and human pharmaceuticals.” CBGI also makes use of the UT Arlington College of Business where Dr. Larry Chonko oversaw the market research that makes up the basis of the company’s marketing plan.
“Tech Titans is the premier recognition of fast-growing, highly innovative companies that contribute to the vibrancy of the North Texas economy and make our region an exciting place to live and work,” said Hernan Giraldo, Vice-President of Sales for applications software at Alcatel-Lucent, and Chair of the MTBC’s Tech Titans steering committee. “We look forward to showcasing true leaders in our industry and celebrating their hard work and creativity.”
