Wexford, PA (PRWEB) December 14, 2011 -- MHF Services (MHF), a leading provider of packaging, transportation, logistics and technical services, recently concluded work on the long-running Shpack Landfill Superfund Site remediation project in Norton, MA.
Over the course of six years, MHF assisted the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the USACE’s prime contractor, The Conti Group, in removing approximately 77,400 tons of low-level radioactive waste and non-regulated material from the site to a disposal facility in the Western US.
MHF’s turnkey services on this high-profile project included packaging, technical services to complete shipping manifests, equipment, truck transportation from the site, truck-to-rail transloading, and rail transportation. MHF furnished private equipment including gondola railcars and Articulated Bulk Container (ABC) flatcars and proprietary packaging including Super Load Wrappers™ and Lift Liners™ for the project. MHF performed the t ransloading activities at a facility it operates in Worcester, MA.
MHF was active on this project from November 2005 until October of this year, making a total of 774 railcar shipments.
“We are proud of the work we accomplished at Shpack,” said Scott Dempsey, MHF Vice President and Director of Sales & Marketing. “Our longevity on this project stands as evidence of our ability to provide a consistent level of service over multiple years to aid our clients in meeting their long-term goals.”
The Shpack Landfill was an eight-acre abandoned domestic and industrial landfill. The site was managed by the USACE under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). The primary source of contamination at FUSRAP locations stems from the processing of uranium ores and the disposal of the byproducts. In addition to Shpack, MHF has provided services at several other FUSRAP sites.
