More funding for recycling in Lancashire

More funding support has been made available to groups and organisations promoting reduce, reuse and recycling initiatives in Lancashire.

Lancashire County Council and Blackpool Council have made changes to their Waste Action Grant funding scheme, initially launched in 2008, to increase the amount of funding available from £500 in previous years to around £2,500 per project.

As well as the increase in funds, changes have also been made to the way in which funding applications are assessed. This will now be done in batches throughout the year in order to introduce an element of competition and ensure funds are targeted to the most promising projects.

Funding is available to assist groups to address waste in their own organisations. Applications are also sought from applicants who can provide services or work in partnership to manage waste better and increase recycling and reuse rates.

Blackpool Council cabinet member for business services Ian Fowler said: “The Waste Action Grants Scheme enables local groups and organisations to make a real contribution to waste management locally for the benefit of the whole community.”
