Mothercare takes sustainable steps

Mother-and-baby chain Mothercare has awarded waste firm Severnside Recycling with a three-year recycling contract.

Mothercare group business development manager Emma Conroy said: “We aim to reduce the amount of waste we currently send to landfill by encouraging recycling and sustainability across all our stores. Severnside is conducting a comprehensive waste management audit with a view to introducing a recycling service to achieve these aims and to support our corporate social responsibility policy.”

The recycling service will be introduced in all of Mothercare stores, as well as Early Learning Centres, acquired by the Mothercare Group in April 2007.

Severnside is working with other major retailers including Arcadia, Next Retail and Tesco.

Severnside communications manager Tim Price said: “Despite the current market conditions, our expertise in waste management for the retail sector has resulted in a groundswell of contracts from companies, like Mothercare, who are determined to incorporate environmental considerations into their core business values.”
