The Allen Water Filter Plant in Englewood, Colorado, installed a Sievers TOC Analyzer from GE Analytical Instruments to monitor Total Organic Carbon (TOC), in compliance with the USEPA Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproduct Rule (D/DBPR). The plant used the TOC analyzer to continuously monitor their influent and effluent water TOC and adjusted their coagulation dosage rate accordingly.

Englewood’s process optimization initiative saved over $50,000 in the first year in coagulant reduction alone. Because they gained immediate results from their TOC analyzer, rather than waiting for TOC results to return from the laboratory, they further decreased associated coagulant waste hauling costs. The plant ended up saving more than $100,000 in total, and they expect second year savings to reach $145,000.
