Coventry, RI -- Neptune Benson is pleased to announce its ETS-UV disinfection products have completed a rigorous operational trial and review of the Validation Report by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA has issued a Special Exception Permit to the City of Moline approving the use of the Neptune Benson ETS-UV system for 2.5 log cryptosporidium and 2.0 Giardia inactivation to enhance the quality and safety of Moline’s drinking water supply.
Neptune Benson is an industry leader in water filtration and disinfection in the municipal, industrial and recreational water markets. Its ETS-UV brand is well established as a leading UV manufacturer.
UV disinfection effectively deactivates the threat of waterborne pathogens and has become an important component to ensure public drinking water is healthy and free from harmful microorganisms. Nationwide, UV systems are being installed into municipal drinking water facilities to effectively deactivate Cryptosporidium and Giardia, both organisms that are tolerant to chlorine.
The ETS-UV reactors are approved for a 2.5 Log inactivation of Cryptosporidium Parvum and a 2.0 Log inactivation of Giardia Lamblia. In order to receive the credit and fully comply with the EPA drinking water regulations, the city is required to operate and maintain the UV system in accordance with permit requirements and submit associated monitoring reports to the IEPA each month.
Commenting on the approval, Greg Swanson, Moline Utilities General Manager stated, “This is a milestone to be savored and celebrated. The validated UV system provides an additional treatment barrier to ensure that none of the chlorine-tolerant microorganisms, such as Cryptosporidium, which may be present in our source water are present in our finished water. Moline residents now enjoy enhanced public health protection and the peace of mind that accompanies a continuous supply of safe high quality drinking water. Moline extends its thanks and appreciation to both the Neptune Benson and Greely and Hansen teams for the important roles they played in achieving this goal.”
