New ATEX certificates

Progressing cavity pumps, peristaltic pumps, and macerators are also certified for use in dusty atmospheres, the ALLTRIMM series is also ATEX compliant.

For many years progressing cavity pumps, peristaltic pumps, and mac-erators manufactured by ALLWEILER AG have fulfilled the requirements for use in potentially explosive gaseous atmospheres. But now - since mid-2008 -they are also certified for use in dust-laden explosive atmospheres. The ATEX certificate confirms that ALLWEILER pumps now fully comply with EU directive 94/9/EC 'Explosion Protection'. This directive requires proper documentation for all new installations and initial startups of equipment in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.

This applies to equipment group II, categories '2' and '3' of the directive, i.e. for use in frequently explosive and briefly explosive gaseous or dust-laden atmospheres (zones 1, 21, 2, and 22). Unlike gaseous atmospheres, dusty atmospheres are not associated with temperature class limitations.

With the ATEX certification, the ALLTRIMM series may also be operated as an explosion-protected device in potentially-explosive environments (with gas and dust hazards). The ATEX directive does not extend to equipment on board seagoing vessels or movable offshore rigs. Accordingly, ALLTRIMM must not comply with RL94/9/EC as a heeling pump. But since it is also used in container ships for transporting hazardous materials, it falls under the IMDG code (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) and must be ATEX-compliant.
