Nick Clegg: India visit
The Deputy Prime Minister is leading a trade delegation on a visit to India from 25 to 27 August 2014.
The Deputy Prime Minister will lead the first trade mission to India since Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elected in May. Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, and Lord Dholakia, the Deputy Prime Minister’s India Business Adviser, will also join the delegation.
Nick Clegg will be spending time in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore over the 3-day visit. His main focus will be on trade and business, but he will also be visiting cultural landmarks, meeting Indian political leaders and talking with students at Indian universities.
Priorities for the visit
The Deputy Prime Minister’s main priorities for the visit are to:
- take advantage of the trade and investment opportunities presented by the new Indian government’s focus on economic growth
- celebrate the strong cultural links between UK and India, eg through educational exchange programmes
