It was a somewhat overcast Manchester skyline that met the arrival of the Euro Tour bus on Friday morning. But that didn’t deter a number of fans from seating themselves at the feet of Queen Victoria’s regal statue in Piccadilly Garden, in front of the bus, and busying themselves with some eager Pokemon catching while we set up the #OP3EuroTour experience ahead of the bus’ first grand opening at 12 noon.
The northern rain couldn’t deter fans, who began to queue as the hour approached, a long line snaking around the large statue of our former queen. A countdown and a cheer went up as the doors opened.
It was an absolute delight to see so many people come and ask questions, try out the device for themselves, experience our speed-oriented selfie booth, and blast into outer space to try out the Loop. Caio made many friends in the queue, showing off the Smile Capture capabilities of the front-facing camera, and making people laugh with his interesting business ideas. We’re not sure Grumpy Capture will catch on.
As the rain began to fall, we handed out some umbrellas to those queueing patiently, and we sadly had to pack away the charging booth due to the wet weather. We still had a few devices outside though, and there were plenty of passers-by who came up to enquire about the bus and try out the OnePlus 3 for themselves.
The selfie booth was a big hit, with many enjoying the Speed of Light Experience, snapping smiling selfies with friends as racing sounds filled one end of the bus, and taking away their printed proof of the power of the OnePlus 3 camera.
Outside of the bus, the gazebo over the charging station became a refuge for Pokemon trainers in the Gardens seeking shelter from the weather, especially after we tweeted that we had free wi-fi! It wasn’t long before they turned their attention to the OnePlus 3s on display, and started snapping pictures of Drowsys and Pidgeys around the bus.
Even as we were closing up for the day, we still had newcomers crowding around the entrance, keen to try out the phone for themselves, including the Soft Gold version. As one new fan said, ‘it’s beautiful. It blew me away.’ That's always nice to hear!
In the end, a great many walked away with smiles on their faces, with early birds wearing t-shirts that proudly cried ‘Never Settle’. It might have been a typical British summer's day – filled with clouds and rain – but that did little to dampen our spirits.
An enormous thank you to everyone who joined us in Manchester, to our fantastic superfans @superplus and @jpswer for helping out, to the staff who answered questions in the pouring rain, and of course to all of the people – fans and newcomers alike – who came to check out the OnePlus bus.
