Optimal separation of iron particles from wood chips
Goudsmit Magnetic Systems BV has developed overbelt electro magnets that are suitable for dusty explosion-sensitive environments in ATEX 22 zones. These magnets are suitable for the removal of iron particles from recycling and/or bulk handling .material flows such as wood, garbage, RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel), hard coal, or cement. In short, materials that will be increasingly recycled and/or used as an energy generator. The conveyor belts are extra strong and durable so they will easily capture separated iron particles and then cast them off. An auxiliary magnet will ensure the carrying off of separated iron particles from the magnetic field. Electrical connections and wiring will all be installed in accordance with ATEX directives. Also, the bearings will be protected and the magnet will be completely covered. As an additional option, the unit will include a heat exchanger with a cooling fan so as to be able to control, and also to guarantee, the (oil) cooling of the magnetic.
Applications
Magnets will be used to prevent dust explosions in susceptible areas. For example, in the dusty wood processing industry. In 2007, Goudsmit was the first magnet producer in Europe to receive the ATEX Production Quality Assurance Notification for its rotating magnets. This is granted by KEMA and enables users of such magnets to carry out production in a safer way and in conformity with the new guidelines, even when there is a dust explosion risk. As the company builds customer-specific magnets, it was not possible to work with only a type approval. When obtaining a type approval, only that type of magnet can be delivered. By gaining the ATEX certificate, the company can continue to deliver customer-specific products. Currently, we are working hard on the certification of the overbelt electro magnet series that are suitable for explosion-sensitive ATEX 21 areas.
