System Harnesses Fully Automated TurboMatrix™ Headspace Sampler and Meets ASTM D3612 Part A and C Standards

ORLANDO, Fla. – PerkinElmer, Inc. (NYSE: PKI ), a leading provider of drug discovery, life science research and analytical solutions, today announced its new PerkinElmer-Arnel TOGA gas chromatography system for the analysis of transformer oil fault gases using headspace sampling at PITTCON® 2005, Booth 4728. Having served the power industry for years, the PerkinElmer-Arnel TOGA (Transformer Oil and Gas Analyzer) has now been integrated with PerkinElmer's TurboMatrix™ Headspace Sampler, permitting complete automation for transformer fault gas analysis.

The American Society for Testing and Materials ( ASTM ) Method D3612 Part A and B have been the standard methods for fault gas analysis in the electrical industry to date. This traditional method is extremely labor-intensive and time-consuming and specifies that the analysis of hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, ethane, ethylene and acetylene are required for identification and quantification. A new Part C has been recently introduced and now lab technicians, scientists and quality assurance chemists in the power industry using large, oil insulated transformers have a new fully automated option for the analysis of fault gas in the PerkinElmer-Arnel TOGA gas chromatograph.

The new TOGA analyzer is a product of a PerkinElmer and Arnel Inc . agreement to jointly engineer and market special products. With the addition of PerkinElmer's TurboMatrix Headspace Sampler to the TOGA system, technicians can now expand on the traditional method of analysis and allow for headspace sampling of insulating oils. The new fully automated TOGA analyzer is completely compliant with ASTM Method D3612 Part A and C standards.

Available in three different models (16, 40 or 110 sample capacity), the TurboMatrix Headspace Samplers eliminate tedious and error-producing steps required in Part A. Complete automation of sample preparation and analysis is accomplished through the use of the headspace sampler, significantly increasing throughput and precision.
