New Technologies, Approaches Break Down Barriers to High-Performing, Faster and More Accurate Analysis
CHICAGO – PerkinElmer Inc., (NYSE: PKI), a global leader in Health Sciences and Photonics, is highlighting its latest solutions to help scientists gain greater insight into samples with precise, easy-to-use, high-throughput solutions at PITTCON® 2007, Feb. 26-March 2, Booth 843. The latest offerings are designed for laboratories in a wide range of market segments, including environmental, hydrocarbon processing and biofuels, forensics, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, chemical quality control and academia.
The new Clarus® 600 Gas Chromatograph (GC) and Clarus® 600 Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) are making their PITTCON debut with an in-booth demonstration of the novel GC oven technology enabling the fastest injection-to-injection time in a conventional GC while reducing cycle time and significantly increasing sample throughput. The Clarus 600 GC addresses the needs of the full spectrum of GC users, including environmental contract, forensics, petrochemicals and chemical quality-control laboratories; the Clarus 600 GC/MS supports the same segments with additional applications for food and fragrance analysis.

In addition, we are increasing the breadth of several product families, such as our Molecular Spectroscopy line, where customers want to choose the level of performance and features that meet their individual needs.”
Other GC innovations include four Biodiesel Gas Chromatography Turnkey Systems to support the rapidly growing biofuels industry. These systems provide a choice of best-in-class analyzers for the verification of pure biodiesel (B100) to meet ASTM and European CEN Method EN14105 standards.
The new qVisc 4320 AX Autosampler Viscometer, available from PerkinElmer under a distribution agreement with The Fluid Life Corp., expands PerkinElmer’s solutions to support the analysis of used oil. Laboratories use the measurement of viscosity to determine if a potential problem exists with a used oil sample that may require further analysis by other instrumentation. The qVisc 4320 AX can analyze up to 200 samples in its autosampler unattended. The advanced system automatically adds solvents as needed and maintains the cleanliness of the glassware to reduce operator intervention and minimize downtime.

Spectrum™ 400 – The latest infrared tool to combine optimized near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy in a single research-grade instrument, allowing its user to switch between the two with the push of a button. It will aid in trouble-shooting, method and product development and routine infrared (IR) analyses and will support testing and research in multiple applications, including chemicals and materials, pharmaceuticals and academia.
RamanStation™ 400 – The first in a series of new Raman instrumentation introductions, offering push-button ease-of-use with advanced technology that enables full spectral range at high resolution in one acquisition. It allows for faster data collection, increased uptime and data reproducibility among users in academia and drug discovery.
“The RamanStation 400 brings dispersive Raman technology to a wider audience than previous technology,” Friel noted. “It’s simple enough for a non-Raman specialist to obtain high quality information on the identification, composition and molecular structure of samples.”

Other features of Version 6.0 include a completely updated graphical user interface, ClickOnce subscriber model for deployment, enhanced audit trail and error handling and an integrated real-time messaging system to facilitate communication and system notifications.
