Pioneering product and operating concept of Metso Recycling is awarded coveted IF Design Award
Handling advantages and reduced production costs due to unique functionality
After a development period of nearly three years, the machines of Metso Minerals Germany (formerly Metso Lindemann) offer a product and operating concept that is unprecedented in the industry and impresses with a reengineered design and an innovative control interface. So far, the new technology is used in the two flagships of the company: the EtaCut II scrap shear for crushing heavy mixed and demolition scrap, and the EtaShred ZZ shredder.
For this equipment, Metso and the Institute for Integrated Design (i/i/d) have now received the coveted international 'IF Design Award' from the Industrie Forum Design Hannover (see www.ifdesign.de). The aim of the cooperation between Metso and the i/i/d was the development of a uniform, simplified and globally applicable operating concept, and a product structure which optimizes all processes.
'At first we made a detailed analysis of current products and the needs of our customers. It goes without saying that we included the wishes and experiences of machine operators in the concept development. The resulting functionality provides measurable benefits in handling, and offers a user interface that can be applied worldwide', commented Harald Nolte, head of the technology department.
The result is a new generation of machinery with advantages in all areas: in addition to process improvements such as faster loading times and higher capacity, it features improved energy efficiency, reduced transport costs, simplified installation, improved maintenance conditions and reduced downtime, as well as increased rigidity and stability. Based on an attractive design, robustness, longevity, durability, easy handling, maintenance and cleaning are combined in an optimal way.
The newly developed user interface of the machine control has a modular structure, is language-independent, and offers intuitive operation. It can be adapted to different installation sites of the machines, and the individual user levels facilitate operator change. In the future, this innovative control system will be integrated in all machines and types, allowing quick user navigation.
The function, feel and appearance of the first plants featuring this concept - such as the new EtaCut II and the new EtaShred ZZ – underline the outstanding market position of Metso Recycling.
