Plant and waste recycling show expects more than 4,000 visitors
A breakaway exhibition to rival the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management’s and Environmental Services Association’s Futuresource is expecting more than 4,000 visitors this year.
Last year, a group of disgruntled plant hire vehicle and waste disposal exhibitors decided to set up a show called the Plant and Waste Recycling show which will start from 15-17 June at Paignton, Torbay. They did it in protest at the CIWM for moving the CIWM exhibition to London.
The Futuresource show will take place from 9-11 June at Excel, London.
Plant and Waste Recycling Show coordinator Alan Bowman told MRW: “We expect between 3,500 and 4,500 visitors this year. We have exhibitors including BMC, BMI, Liebherr, Hinowa, SsangYong, Gullivers and WCR [plant hire vehicle firms]. More than 150 local authority officers have registered and visitors all over Europe and other parts of the world are coming. We are trying to make a fun business and networking opportunity. You will not get anything like this in London.
“All you will get is suited and booted people sitting around in tables and conferences. You will not get to talk to people who supply the waste and recycling industry with equipment or speak to the waste transfer guys – visitors will not get to speak to people at grassroots level.”
Bowman suggested that the Institute could have run a seminar show in London “with all the poncey stuff” and then run the exhibition at Paignton, Torbay. He said that big screen video links could have connected the seminar with the people at the exhibition and vice versa.
“Many people who attend this show know that business will be done over a pie and a pint and you will not get that in London.”
