Point and shoot sound level meter
The quick and easy solution to assess noise levels inside and at the boundary of premises
This small, ‘switch on and go’ sound level meter from Pulsar Instruments can be found in thousands of small, medium and large businesses around the world. Such is its popularity with customers that, although it is an established product, demand for it keeps on coming with no sign of slowing down.
If you are not familiar with it yet, Pulsar Model 14 is an entry level sound level meter. Any staff with some basic knowledge of what is required under the noise regulations can use it to perform a quick survey or spot checks around a factory, garage, engine room or even outside industrial premises to make sure that noise emanating from inside are not exceeding recommended levels. With prices starting at £260 + VAT, it is the ideal sound level meter for applications where a basic, yet compliant noise monitoring device, is required such as, for example, during the testing of Fire Alarms, fireworks, or sound systems.
For added peace of mind, this sound level meter complies fully with professional standards IEC 61672:2003 at Class 2 level as well as the older IEC 60651 Type 2. It has a large and simple to navigate backlit LCD display to allow high visibility in all light conditions. The meter is powered by a standard 9V battery and is housed in a plastic casing which makes it a very light unit to carry about. It is very easy to operate with a few simple buttons to allow users, even inexperienced one, to obtain the ‘A’ frequency-weighting required by the EU Directive, but as well, ‘C’ frequency weighting, both with ‘F’ time-weighting or what was traditionally called 'Fast response'. Max hold function is also fitted as demanded by the standard.
A high sensitivity range is also fitted to the meter, to allow noise to be checked at the boundary of any premises to ensure that it is not escaping from a workplace; this is possible as the Model 14 is fitted with a 50mV/Pa measurement microphone.
The main purpose of the Pulsar Model 14 is to allow staff with some responsibility for health and safety to carry out an initial survey of factories and other workplaces where the noise levels are not expected to be very high. If, during this initial survey, all noise levels are found to be less than 75dB(A), workers are not likely to be exposed to dangerous noise levels and the employer can be confident that their business operates within the current regulations. If one or more slightly higher levels are found, these can be assessed more fully by using an integrating sound level meter such as the Pulsar Quantifier or Nova ranges to help quantify the average level. Alternatively, a Personal Sound Exposure Meter or noise 'doseBadge' can be used to measure the noise exposure of individual workers in terms of LA(t) during an entire working shift.Model 14 sound level meter is supplied on its own or as a measurement kit including the Pulsar acoustic calibrator Model 106 as well as a windshield, the operating manual etc, and housed in a carrying pouch with its own shoulder strap.
