PRAB spotlights system approach to chip processing equipment during IMTS 2012
Kalamazoo, MI -- PRAB scrap metal and fluid recycling engineers will be on hand at IMTS in Booth E-5664 (held Sept. 10-15 at McCormick Place in Chicago) to meet with attendees to discuss the efficiencies and benefits of scrap metal handling, fluid filtration, and recycling systems. Engineered to address unique manufacturing and industry challenges, PRAB chip handling systems can increase profits by effectively processing scrap and reclaiming expensive cutting oils and coolants.
The PRAB booth will feature the key equipment comprised in a chip handling system, featuring a shredder, a wringer and a crusher, and will demonstrate the overall technology advances in chip handling. Visitors to the PRAB booth will also be the first to see the new Candle Filter – a fluid filter designed to reduce operating costs and protect machining and grinding equipment while increasing throughput.
Model R Tramp Metal Separator
Designed to protect valuable processing equipment from damage, the Model R Tramp Metal Separator effectively removes bar-ends, broken tooling and other solids from the chip flow, helping metal fabricating companies to:

The Model R Separator is specifically engineered to feed seamlessly into PRAB's Diagonal-Shaft Wringer. The unit incorporates a blower and rotary air lock mounting to the wringer infeed conveyor. An adjustable air flow panel allows for customizable settings to optimize efficiency based on size and weight of your specific metal chips. Manual calibration allows customized settings to process very small solids from the chip flow. The Model R Separator is engineered to continuously handle metal scrap at rates up to 60 ft3/hr (1.6 m3/hr).
PRAB's heavy-duty wringers use up to 700 Gs of force to reclaim up to 98 percent of valuable coolant and cutting oils from aluminum, brass, cast iron, steel, stainless steel and other metal chips for:

Vertical Axis Crusher
PRAB's Vertical Axis Crusher reduces turnings and bulky wads of material into shovel-grade chips, reconditioning the metal for further processing and recycling. The solids ejector automatically discharges bar-ends, maximizing uptime and protecting valuable equipment from damage.
- Reduces up to six times the amount of material, significantly decreasing required storage space
- Produces material up to 4,000 lb/hr (1 814 kg/hr)

The new PRAB Candle Filter is specifically engineered to meet the challenges of effectively removing fine particulate from spent oil in Horning and EDM machining applications and Tungsten carbide tool and steel ball grinding applications. This new filter uses a permanent media in a long cylinder that houses over 10,000 thin membrane wafers. These membranes effectively and consistently capture grinding swarf at 1 micron. These dependable filters operate with virtually no downtime for maintenance. The self-cleaning, air driven backwash system automatically clears the filter of dirt and debris allowing the Candle Filter to perform reliably under long production runs.
