Professor Trevor Baker has been awarded the Paul Melchior Medal at the 18th International Symposium on Geodynamics and Earth Tides for 'outstanding service and leadership”. This prestigious medal is awarded every four years to recognise outstanding scientists with huge experience and influence in the Tidal Community.
Trevor worked at the National Oceanography Centre in Liverpool for over 35 years, being part of its evolution from the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory (POL), and before that, part of the Institute of Oceanographic Sciences. He led the group at the POL which made pioneering measurements in Earth tides, including the study of how the solid earth responds to loading by the ocean tide, using highly accurate gravity meters. This work led on to other geodetic research at the POL using GPS and absolute gravity techniques applied to the study of long-term land and sea level changes. Trevor's scientific publications include more than 160 high-quality scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
The full citation of Trevor's scientific achievements appears on the International Symposium on Geodynamics and Earth Tides website as prepared by B. Ducarme.
We are excited to announced the latest addition to Sequoia Scientific, Inc! Anna Boyar has joined us as our Service & Support Manager. Anna graduated in 2019 from the University of Washington School of Oceanography, focusing on ocean instrumentation and sediment dynamics. While in school, she loved going on research cruises and being a part of the oceanography community. In the year after graduating, she worked in several different oceanography labs. She is excited to be on the other side—supporting...
A continuous supply of seawater is essential for the operation of every coastal industrial plant. In the past period, high-density patches of jellyfish have again been observed at sea along the Omani coastline. This had a significant impact on coastal industries in Oman. In response to the risk, we have formed a group of expert companies (H2O Biofouling Solutions, Five Oceans Environmental Services & Saltwater Environmental Engineering) that brings together experts in the fields of seawater intake system...
Sequoia Scientific, Inc. is proud to announce receipt of an SBIR grant from the US Department of Energy’s (DoE) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) to develop novel environmental instrument technology that will monitor key elements of suspended sediment plumes generated by mining operations in the abyssal ocean, at depths down to 6000 m. Sequoia is the prime recipient of the grant, which also includes collaboration with Prof. Thomas Peacock (The Environmental Dynamics Laboratory, MIT) and...
National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is the United Kingdom’s centre of excellence for oceanographic sciences. Back in 2018, NOC team chose IQUA’s SPARUS II platform to become a test bed for new developments that may be later transferred to other vehicles in their fleet. The team picked this AUV for its versatility, its ROS driven software and its possibilities for sensors integration.
In this case, NOC team has closely worked with Sonardyne, a global provider of underwater acoustic, inertial, optical...
Co-sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), and The Oceanography Society (TOS), the Ocean Sciences Meeting is the premier scientific conference for the ocean science community.
“This year’s theme, For a Resilient Planet, centers around the concept that scientists, in partnership with governments and communities, have the power to affect change in fostering healthier and more resilient oceans, a safer and sustainable food...
