Ozone has been used successfully for more than 100 years for the water treatment for Drinking water and highly purified water for various applications. Ozone is an environmentally benign gas which can be produced in the required quantities close to the point of use and quickly breaks down into normal oxygen. In contrast to most other oxidants and disinfectants, ozone generates no undesirable or toxic by-products. The effectiveness of ozone results from its powerful effect on chemicals and microorganisms – which is caused by the OH – share in the water. Ozone directly attacks the surface of the microorganisms and destroys their cell walls. The cell thus lose their cyto-plasm and can no longer reactivate themselves. Ozone is a very strong oxidizing agent with powerful disinfecting properties, which is bactericidal, veridical, fungicidal and sporicidal.
