Recognizing Safe + Sound Week in Puerto Rico to Protect the Health and Safety of All Workers
Zimmetry Environmental provides workplace inspections, consulting, and industrial hygiene and environmental testing services to identify and mitigate occupational hazards.
Bayamon, Puerto Rico, August 9th, 2021 -- Safe + Sound Week takes place from August 9th through the 15th this year. It is the fifth annual week of recognition by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a coalition of safety organizations and thousands of businesses. Each supports the concept that every workplace should have a safety and health program that includes management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards.
It is also an opportunity for OSHA and partners to share information and ideas on ways to keep workers safe. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the rate of worker deaths and reported injuries in the United States has decreased by more than 60 percent in the past four decades since the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act was passed. However, every year, more than 5,000 workers are killed on the job (a rate of 14 per day), and more than 3.6 million suffer a serious job-related injury or illness.
Safety and health programs help to:
§ Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses
§ Improve compliance with laws and regulations
§ Reduce costs, including significant reductions in workers' compensation premiums
§ Engage workers
§ Enhance social responsibility goals
§ Increase productivity and enhance overall business operations
“Implementing successful safety and health programs will not only protect workers, it can also save companies a significant amount of money,” said Harry Pena, President of Zimmetry Environmental. “In Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean, Zimmetry’s industrial hygiene and indoor environmental quality experts are dedicated to helping companies and institutions prevent accidents, injuries, illnesses and deaths due to occupational exposures to harmful substances.
