DENVER, CO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/10/11 -- The 2011 Cleantech Open Rocky Mountain region (www.cleantechopen.com) is rolling out its third annual business competition -- and a May 24 deadline is rapidly approaching to compete in the world's largest cleantech business competition.
Encompassing Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, the Cleantech Open Rocky Mountain region was created to find, fund and foster tomorrow's most promising clean-technology companies. Its mission is to accelerate American entrepreneurs and innovations in the cleantech sector.
In 2010, the region was home to the 2010 Cleantech Open National Sustainability winner, Biovantage Resources, a Golden, Colorado-based firm that has developed a scalable algae production system for wastewater treatment. Other regional finalists included infiniRel, INOTEC, and pureSilicon.
'Ecopreneurs in the Rocky Mountain region are turning great cleantech ideas into green-collar jobs and sustainable businesses,' said Richard Franklin, regional director of the Cleantech Open, Rocky Mountain chapter. 'We are excited to see the ideas and opportunities that our contestants will bring to this year's competition.'
The Rocky Mountain Cleantech Open is part of a national program across more than 25 states and an international 'Global Ideas' program. The competition provides early-stage entrepreneurs and small businesses with access to mentorship and training services provided by subject-matter experts, as well as exposure to national investors. Solution categories for the 2011 program include: air, water and waste; energy efficiency; green building; renewable energy; smart power, green grid and energy storage; and transportation. Companies with less than $1 million in private, third-party funding and less than $5 million from other sources of funding are qualified to apply. All teams must include at least one United States resident and a total of at least two individuals.
Entries for this year's competition are now being accepted via the Cleantech Open website at http://www.cleantechopen.com/app.cgi/content/competition/business/how_to_enter.
Participants receive top training, access to one of the world's largest cleantech networks, complimentary participation in events and the opportunity to compete for prizes at both the regional and national level, with total prizes of over $1 million in cash, investment and services.
