Rubber is generally considered to be a general term for all polymeric elastomers
Rubber is generally considered to be a general term for all polymeric elastomers.
ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials Testing) defines rubber as a material that, Rubber tracks series under large deformations, recovers its deformation quickly and forcefully and can be modified (vulcanized). The modified rubber is substantially insoluble (but swellable) in a solvent such as boiling benzene, methyl ethyl ketone, ethanol-toluene mixture. The modified rubber is stretched to 2 times the original length at room temperature (18 to 29 degrees Celsius) and the external force is removed after 1 Min, and it can be restored to 1.5 times or less of the original length within 1 min.
The national standard (GB9881) defines rubber as: rubber is an elastomer that can or has been modified to be substantially insoluble (but swellable) in boiling solvents such as benzene, methyl ethyl ketone, ethanol-toluene azeotrope.
There are four main forms of rubber: raw rubber, plastic rubber, rubber compound, and vulcanized rubber. In addition, there are recycled rubber, pure rubber, masterbatch and the like. Raw rubber refers to rubber that has not undergone any processing and rubber with certain plasticity requirements; rubber compound refers to rubber which is added with compounding agent and is subjected to kneading processing; vulcanized rubber refers to rubber which is uniformly mixed and vulcanized by adding compounding agent.
