SPP Pumps are delighted to have been recognised by their industry peers by taking the coveted Manufacturer of the Year Award at the 2008 Pump Industry Awards - held in association with the BPMA (British Pump Manufacturers Association) and World Pumps magazine.
The accolade is awarded to the pump manufacturer who achieves recognition from contractors or final end users of pump products for their services in areas such as technical expertise and advice, manufacturing and testing facilities, customisation of special needs, clarity of documentation, on-time delivery and customer service.
SPP was also a finalist in the Technical Innovation of the Year Award for their Condition Monitoring products - an award they won last year for the Lowest Life-Cycle Cost Series of vertical suspended bowl pumps.
Having strengthened their position over the last 12 months by focusing on the requirements of their market, SPP achieves recognition with this award as a world leader in the design and production of centrifugal pumps and fluid handling systems for a variety of applications across a wide range of industries.
As sponsors of this year's Young Pump Engineer of the Year Award, SPP also demonstrated a commitment to excellence for the future of the industry.
Technical expertise and experience:
SPP is building on a reputation for quality products which has been established over the past 100 years. They advise and supply end users and contractors in many market areas.
In the water industry, SPP's experience is being used to develop pumps to reduce the cost of ownership for end users by making them more efficient, reducing service requirements and simplifying the service work itself.
The fire pump sets supplied into the oil and gas industry are engineered to order, as every application is unique in some way. Sometimes this includes site considerations such as extreme temperatures and seismic activity.
Clear documentation is supplied with all products ranging from small, simple centrifugal, bare-shaft pumps through to the detailed requirements of the oil and gas industry who often need basic stress calculations, material traceability, non destructive testing data, test plans and other documents on CDs and in multi-copied manuals.
Based in Coleford in the Forest of Dean, SPP Pumps have one of the best pump manufacturing and test centres in the UK. This has extensive machining and assembly facilities, together with a test bed which can cope with a wide range of diesel and electric drivers. Continued investment keeps the plant up to date - this year a new horizontal machining centre was installed specifically for the manufacture of horizontal split pump casings.
During 2008, at their Coleford Manufacturing Plant, SPP has increased turnover per head by 50%, reduced stock by 10% and reduced warranty costs as a percentage of turnover by 20%.
All this has been achieved in a manufacturing environment where more than half of turnover is engineered to order. Many orders are bespoke packages with complex specifications and more than half the turnover is exported.
Also based at Coleford is one of SPP's UK Service Centres with full equipment for pump repair and refurbishment. Worldwide SPP have manufacturing and repair workshops in France, the USA, South Africa and Dubai and are backed by the facilities of a parent company in India. A team of Service Engineers is available for site work worldwide.
Many customers take the time to show their recognition verbally and in writing. One recent order which led to very positive feedback involved a steel manufacturer who needed to replace pumps and the only window for replacement was a short plant shut down already planned and with only nine weeks lead time. SPP manufactured the pumps on time, delivered them on a Sunday afternoon and installed them with service engineers working in shifts. The customer was delighted.
Customer service programme:
SPP employees are skilled, enthusiastic and passionate. The Company wants to profit from partnership with its customers, sharing ideas and initiatives, goals, priorities and benefits. SPP is interested in supporting its customers for the whole cycle from initial enquiry through to service and repair. This now includes site performance testing and condition monitoring.
Now in their sixth year, the Pump Industry Awards are firmly established as an event that recognises and promotes best practice in both manufacture and supply - covering such key areas as innovation and achievement, energy saving, engineering excellence, customer care and employee motivation.
