The importance and protection of subterranean water

Source: EEP European Environmental Press

In Poland, the Polish Geological Institute (PSH) plays a leading role in the hydrogeological work connected with the implementation of the Framework Water Directive into Polish Law, by taking on the functions of the state hydrogeological service. The results of PSH's work are used by public bodies, as well as for the preparation of reports for the European Commission as a result of the laws. An urgent task for the next few years is the creation of a system for monitoring subterranean waters, as well as assessment of their current condition.
