The MACK Group, LLC completes large asbestos abatement project
The MACK Group, LLC completed a large asbestos abatement removal project at the former GAF Plant located in South Bound Brook, New Jersey. The asbestos removal project consisted of asbestos abatement of 300,000 sf of asbestos transite roof & siding panels, 100,000 sf of asbestos built-up roofing, 11,000 ft of asbestos piping, 15,000 sf of asbestos tile & mastic, three 5 story high industrial asbestos boilers and the removal of several hundred tons of asbestos contaminated soil.
Prior to asbestos abatement activities, a 10 day notification was submitted which is a written notification of intention to demolish in accordance with 40 CFR 61.145 to 61.155 and N.J.A.C. 7:26-2.12(d) and (e).
Proper asbestos wetting, removal and handling techniques were employed to safely remove the materials. The Mack Group, LLC used various techniques to remove the asbestos materials including wetting of all friable ACM and bagging the ACM using poly-wrapping. Also utilized was the wetting and direct placement in lined (at least 6 mil thick liner) and sealed bulk containers. The transportation of asbestos and ACM was in accordance with N.J.A.C. 7:26-3.5(d) and by registered New Jersey solid waste vehicles. ACM was then properly disposed at a licensed landfill.
Because the former plant had been vacant for a long period of time all utilities were disconnected. The MACK Group, LLC. utilized there large onsite generators to supply all power for the 60 HEPA negative air filtration units used inside work area containments.
The MACK Group, LLC. also utilized a Terminator floor scraping machine, bobcats, aerial lifts, chutes and twenty of there NJ licensed asbestos workers to bring in the project in ahead of schedule and without injury.
Following asbestos abatement activities, the buildings were then demolished.
