The Rijnland District Water Control Board now uses the Eijkelkamp Smart Lysimeter
The Rijnland District Water Control Board uses the Eijkelkamp Smart Lysimeter for better investigation of the effects of climate change on water management. The Smart Lysimeter measurement set up, in addition to evaporation, collects data on the amount of precipitation, wind and soil moisture. This data is then transferred telemetrically to Rijnland.
Hoogheemraad Sjaak Langeslag officially launched the first Smart Lysimeter setup yesterday. In total, Rijnland uses three Eijkelkamp Smart Lysimeter set ups to acquire important information for water management. In particular the measurement of evaporation gives Water board Rijnland the additional information it can use in their water management, says Sjaak Langeslag.
'We could already see how much water falls via rain, snow and hail. How much water leaves our area through our weirs, drainages and ground. We could not accurately map the invisible water loss through evaporation. With the lysimeter, we can. '
To collect data from several soil types, The Rijnland District Water Control Board and Eijkelkamp Soil & Water selected three locations:
• In Noordwijkerhout on a sandy soil;
• In Woubrugge on a clay soil;
• In Reeuwijk on a peat soil.
The data gathered by the Smart Lysimeter provides Rijnland a better insight into the complete water cycle. This enables the Rijnland District Water Control Board to better anticipate the effects of changing weather patterns in relation to water management.
