URS & RPI Group Celebrate Top Remediation Award in UK
RPI would like to congratulate URS Infrastructure & Environment UK Limited for winning the Brownfield Briefing Award in the Best In-Situ Treatment category. The Brownfield Briefing Awards have become the flagship event for the brownfield community and winning an award is one of the highest industry accolades a company can receive. The annual awards recognize technical and conceptual excellence in projects that have been underway during the past 12 months. The winning URS submittal (“Trap and Treat'™ Remediation of Chlorinated Solvent and Petroleum Hydrocarbon Plumes” of Bulk Storage Terminal in London, England) can be viewed by clicking on the following link.
Since this site involved both chlorinated solvents and hydrocarbons, it was a fairly unique opportunity to put both of our products into action. The BOS100® trial objective was to demonstrate the ability of the technology to provide plume treatment and capture, while the BOS200® trial was aimed at showing how the technology can reduce LNAPL mobility and promote biodegradation of the source.
Four separate post injection monitoring events conducted within a nine month period demonstrated mean reductions in down-gradient solvent concentrations of: cis-1-2-DCE 84.5%, VC, 85.2%; CA 35.3% demonstrating the immediate and stable capture and treatment of the CHC plume. After 16 weeks of monitoring, mean reductions in LNAPL thickness within the injection area were 93.4%, demonstrating excellent stable control of the LNAPL plume, achieving the project objective.
Along with our congratulations to URS, we would also like to acknowledge RPI Group Affiliates Ejlskov (Denmark) and AST Environmental (Kentucky) for some stellar work on this project. The RPI Group “approach” to in situ remediation becomes even more powerful when our friends in the environmental consulting world embrace it. The good folks at URS certainly did that. My hat is tipped to everyone involved.
