WENDT Corporation Announces the Commissioning of a Model M6090 Shredder at Triple M Metal
WENDT Corporation has announced the commissioning of a Model M6090 shredder at Triple M Metal LP in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. The WENDT Model M6090 was commissioned on May 9 and represents the first shredder installation for this site.
Triple M was started over 40 years ago by Mike Giampaolo and is now a fully integrated recycler of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, operating 16 facilities across Ontario, the United States and Mexico. The recent installation of the M6090 to Triple M’s 10-acre Sault Ste. Marie yard provides them the opportunity to sell the majority of their material locally, while building an additional customer base in close proximity to Sault Ste Marie. Triple M is currently shredding a wide variety of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap collected throughout Northern Ontario, as well as through peddler traffic at their yard.
As Triple M faced high transportation costs of material, the savings gained from having a shredder on-site at its Sault Ste. Marie yard justified their investment in the equipment. “We were looking at pricey shipping costs if we didn’t invest in a shredding facility for this yard,” stated Tom Anderson, Vice President of Engineering. “We would have had to ship shreddable materials to one of our Southern Ontario shredders and then transport the finished goods back up to our local steel mill customer in Sault Ste. Marie.” When determining what shredder to purchase, Triple M found the M6090 to be the appropriate fit for their needs. Anderson says, “The Model M6090 was the right size for this yard. Our material flow was not sufficient enough to support anything larger and the decision supports regional shredding as opposed to centralized shredding.”
In addition to the Model M6090 providing the modularity and size Triple M was looking for, the existing relationship with WENDT added to their decision to invest in the shredder. “We looked at other suppliers, but we liked the compactness of the unit. We’re running a WENDT 130” shredder successfully in Hamilton and currently installing a large WENDT non-ferrous processing plant,” Tom Anderson stated. “We deem our relationship with WENDT as a strategic partnership.”
Triple M’s Model M6090 shredder features a 2,500 Horsepower DC Motor and Bowe Disc Rotor. The shredder is equipped with an Infeed Conveyor, WENDT AutoDriver Controls, modular design features including; a Pre-Fabricated Motor Enclosure and Remote Pre-Wired E-House, and a ferrous downstream with Dual Electro-Drum Magnets and Picking House.
“The M6090 is a smart machine design. WENDT is delivering a shredder that’s appropriate and affordable for smaller markets,” Tom Anderson commented. “We received the project support that we needed from them throughout our project and we will continue to use WENDT as a key equipment supplier on future projects.”
