Taking leadership in sustainability, Rentokil Initial commemorated World Environment Day by a nationwide launch of Think Green. Live Green. – an internal communications programme which signals a commitment to sustainability to staff and stakeholders. This was reinforced by the release of the company’s Environment Policy Statement by the General Managers of Initial Hygiene and Rentokil Pest Control.

“Environmental issues are increasingly important to government, local bodies, businesses and communities” says Geoff Polkinghorne, General Manager of Initial Hygiene who signed an exclusive contract with Disbin Ltd a week ago, to include biodegradable sanitary and waste care bins into Initial Hygiene’s Eco Care range of products and services. “We are offering Initial Hygiene customers a chance to reduce their carbon footprint as we reduce ours” he said. On a global level, Initial is a key sponsor and participant in the International Year of Sanitation, 2008, thus reaching out to lift health, economic and environmental standards while contributing to greater dignity and social development.

Initial Tropical Plants, makes sustainability possible by the very nature of its business. “By bringing nature indoors, we rebuild the instinctive link between man and nature and bring home the truth that we need each other” says Ray Borg Regional Director of Initial Tropical Plants. The plan to introduce greenhouses to grow and nurture plants in the main centres of New Zealand is an important step towards reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Rentokil Pest Control, being conscious of its national role as a market leader has set in place programmes to improve its environmental performance. “When New Zealand’s leading industries, dairy, meat and tourism strive to raise global competitiveness by reducing their carbon footprint, Rentokil as a leading service provider is committed to supporting their goals” says Tony Poulsen. “Protecting our customers’ reputations is our business. We do this by not only walking our talk but their’s as well”.

Under the guidance of Enviro-Mark an international environmental performance standard Rentokil Initial is establishing environmental management systems, to assess performance against agreed standards. This is an independent global third party audit conducted by Landcare research in New Zealand. We believe that this is an integral part of being a global services provider.

For Rentokil Initial, driving sustainability is a journey of continuous improvement which will have the highest impact on our operational excellence, market position, people commitment, health and safety, environment, communities and financial strength.
