X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System Demonstration Team Wins 2013 Collier Award
Eaton Plays Key Role as X-47B Multiple System Supplier
IRVINE, Calif. -- The National Aeronautic Association has selected the U.S. Navy, Northrop Grumman and the X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System Demonstration (UCAS-D) industry team to receive the 2013 Robert J. Collier Trophy, aviation's highest honor. Power management company Eaton has been involved on the UCAS-D team since program launch in 2004 and designed and developed advanced solutions for X-47B fuel, hydraulics and fluid-conveyance systems.
'The U.S. Navy and Northrop Grumman provided clear vision and strong leadership that ultimately led to the UCAS-D team's selection for the 2013 Collier Trophy,' said Uday Yadav, president of Eaton’s Aerospace Group. 'As a team member, Eaton was able to draw from our extensive fuel, hydraulics and conveyance systems expertise and innovation to develop advanced solutions for the X-47B. Eaton appreciates the opportunity to be part of this historic program, and we are honored to be members of the UCAS-D team.'
Eaton provided the entire fuel system for the X-47B, including advanced pumps and control valves, fuel measurement, fuel management and center-of-gravity control software. Eaton also contributed the X-47B's engine-driven hydraulic pump, reservoir, selector valve, pressure regulator relief valve, landing gear control valve, engine throttle actuator, Rynglok™ tube-fitting technology, hoses, swivels and hydraulic couplings.
