An alternative to biological treatment for sewage
Most sea-side towns discharge sewage into the sea, normally some distance off-shore, via an extended out-fall sewer. A town of 100,000 population will produce more than 14,000 cubic metres (3,000,000 gallons) of sewage every day of the year. No small problem. In some coastal locations the sewage used to receive only basic, simple treatment, usually "screening" to remove any large objects, followed by disintegration to chop up smaller solid matter. | ||
