US confirms delays to EPA emission crackdown
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has confirmed that it will phase in new rules governing greenhouse gas emissions from power stations and industrial facilities in a move designed to give carbon intensive businesses more time to prepare for the controversial legislation. EPA administrator Lisa Jackson had told Congress back in February that the agency was considering delaying the introduction of rules that would require stationary sources of greenhouse gas emissions to carry Clean Air Act permits that would require them to ensure any new technology is as carbon efficient as possible. All 50 US States take part in Earth Hour
With the official support of 33 States and Earth Hour being observed in all others and the national capital, the entire US has participated in the global Earth Hour call for effective climate action. South American colossus Brazil also recorded a remarkable surge in participation.
