New study: cloud computing can dramatically reduce energy costs and carbon emissions
By 2020, large(1) U.S. companies that use cloud computing can achieve annual energy savings of $12.3 billion and annual carbon reductions equivalent to 200 million barrels of oil – enough to power 5.7 million cars for one year.(2) This is according to a new study by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), "Cloud Computing: The IT Solution for the 21st Century," conducted by independent analyst research firm Verdantix and sponsored by AT&T. Hackgate: good news or bad for the climate?
Given how fully the phone hacking scandal has been dominating the news, I`m surprised that, so far, there`s been very little discussion in the environment sphere of what any of it might mean in terms of climate change. The indefatigable James Murray at BusinessGreen made the good point that anyone who cares about the planet should probably be grasping the opportunity of impending regulatory reform of the media to call for stronger obligations on news outlets to publish prominent corrections ... | ||
