2013 – a pivotal year for air quality
The organisers of AQE 2013, the Air Quality and Emissions show, have announced that the event’s exhibition is almost completely sold out as a result of the success of previous events coupled with the heightened profile of air quality issues. According to the European Commission, some 500,000 people die prematurely in the EU 27 as a result of poor air quality and Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for the Environment, has expressed his determination to make 2013 the ‘Year of Air’. New Research Links Greenhouse Gas Reduction Efforts With Public Health Benefits In Low-Income And Minority Communities
Expanding climate change mitigation approaches beyond greenhouse gases to also target related pollutants would have enormous public health benefits in the nation`s most disadvantaged communities, according to a report released today by E3 Network and the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. The report, Cooling the Planet, Clearing the Air: Climate Policy, Carbon Pricing, and Co-Benefits, found that the same industrial facilities that emit carbon tend to generate other harmful pollutants that actually pose a more immediate and direct threat to the health of nearby residents. ... | ||
