Financing the low-carbon future – UK commission proposes radical changes
A ground-breaking report released this week by a commission established by Britain"s new government has recommended a massive overhaul of financing mechanisms needed to achieve the UK"s transition to a low carbon economy.
Citing numerous market failures and other barriers to investment and innovation, the Green Investment Bank (GIB) Commission has recommended the establishment of the Green Investment Bank (GIB) to tackle the low carbon investment needs of the UK, working as a key part of overall Government policy.

The dirty truth about tar sands
John D. Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress delivered the keynote speech for Canada 2020"s ""Greening" The Oil Sands: Debunking the Myths and Confronting the Realities" conference held this week in Washington. While seeking not to play the "holier than thou" card, Podesta, one of the most influential voices in American politics today, said he was skeptical about a "green" vision for tar sands.
His address is well worth the read, if only to gain a different, but informed perspective on Canada"s energy policy from south of the border.
