Scots to take the high road to fuel cars
Researchers at Edinburgh Napier University, UK, are patenting a process to produce biobutanol from whisky by-products. Biobutanol can be used directly in vehicles without engine modification, unlike ethanol. It is not volatile and does not attract water, so makes an attractive biofuel. The team at Napier Biofuel Research Centre focussed their efforts on pot ale, the liquid left over in copper stills after whisky fermentation, and draff, the spent barley left over from the malting process, as whisky production, the largest biological process in the UK, produces large quantities of these ... |

China continues to invest in new coal-fired power plants and air pollution control
China has had more coal-fired capacity than the U.S. for some time. It has also had more electrostatic precipitators. Now it has surpassed any country in terms of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems. In the not too distant future, it will become the number one operator of SCR systems for NOx Control.
