US Department of Energy confirms $134m support for Abengoa ethanol plant
The US Department of Energy has continued its drive to dish out financial support for cutting-edge clean tech projects ahead of swingeing budget cuts expected to take effect from next year, announcing the conditional approval of a $133.9m loan guarantee to second-generation biofuels specialist Abengoa Bioenergy. The loan guarantee will support Abengoa`s plans to build a new cellulosic ethanol plant in Kansas, which the company predicts will be capable of turning 300,000 tons a year of corn crop waste into an estimated 23 million gallons of biofuel.
