Controlling hazards from static electricity in the petroleum industry: new EI guidelines and training tool now available
Static electricity is a phenomenon most will have experienced; where flammable atmospheres are present, it can have devastating effects. In the petroleum industry, static electricity is a key concern for safety managers and up-to-date guidance is therefore vital. In the UK, Regulation 5 of The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) requires a risk assessment to be undertaken to assess the likelihood that ignition sources, including electrostatic discharges, may arise in the workplace. Thailand resort beach blackened by oil spill
Black waves of crude oil washed up on a beach at a popular tourist island in Thailand`s eastern sea despite continuous attempts to clean up the oil up over the weekend after it leaked from a pipeline, officials said Monday. Tourists on Samet island were warned to stay away from the beach marred by inky globs as hundreds of workers in white jumpsuits labored to scrape the sand clean and remove the oil from the water.
