EPA increases transparency on chemical risk information
As part of Administrator Lisa P. Jackson’s commitment to strengthen and reform chemical management, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a new policy to increase the public’s access to information on chemicals. The EPA has announced its intention to reject a certain type of confidentiality claim, known as Confidential Business Information (CBI), on the identity of chemicals. Testing by a qualified laboratory can ease asbestos fears
The use of asbestos has been banned from most products in the United States now for a number of years. However, people can still be exposed to asbestos fibers in homes, workplaces and other buildings that contain the once widely used mineral in products ranging from insulation to ceiling tiles.
